THANK YOU SO MUCH for your overwhelming, fearless support for the campaign against the BELA Bill, which, if it should be passed as a law, would make homeschooling in your child’s best interest very difficult.
Stop please!
URGENT! Please stop e-mailing and phoning advocate Rudman for the extension of the time granted for comments on the BELA Bill. If you haven’t sent in your letter yet, please put it on hold for a while: hopefully the date for submissions will be extended, and we’ll have the opportunity to comment on the bill.
WHY? Adv Deon Rudman from the DBE called this morning to ask me to PLEASE ask people to stop e-mailing and phoning for extension. His computer has been flooded and had to be repaired as a result of the masses of e-mails. I apologized for the inconvenience that we caused, and promised to ask people to stop.
He said that they have taken note of our request, and they will definitely consider it – praise the Lord! These passionate homeschoolers’ requests were noted.
Concern noted
This does not mean that an extension has been granted, but at least they have taken note of our concern about the short time granted for consideration of the bill. God willing, we’ll be granted a fair hearing. He promised to give the Trust feedback on our request for an extension on Friday the 27th of October. Please thank God that He is in control, and pray Him for his mercy on us.

Please follow us on Twitter and retweet our tweets regarding the BELA Bill : #BELAbill, #homeschoolfreedom, #nocommentduringexams, #stopskoolkaping. Homeschoolers and cottage schoolers are not the only Interested and Affected Parties, and the BELA Bill is meeting wide protest from amongst others the SGBs.
Good Day, I would like to know how I can become a member of the Pestalozzi Trust. My daughter is finishing Grade 10 this year. After starting high school at Alan Glen, in 2015, she lasted 1 term, and insisted on leaving, the classes were overcrowded, the Maths & Science teachers didn’t speak English properly, so she couldn’t understand a word they were saying. The decision to homeschool her was based on a no. of factors. Firstly she was struggling to concentrate because of the overcrowded classes. Secondly we were finding the school fees difficult to maintain, based on the fact that my husband works for himself and does not have a guaranteed income, so some months were very quiet and there was very little or no income, and we fell behind with school fees, we live on a farm, so it was a trek there and back to school everyday. With all these issues, we decided the best and most cost effective solution would be to homeschool her. Although she works from home her syllabus and exams are done through Future Excellence based in Northcliff. She is extremely disciplined and thrives working on her own. I for one have absolutely no intention of changing this set up. Therefore, I would appreciate your advice going forward.
Regards Sharon Manas
Hi Sharon
It sounds as if you have found the perfect solution. Does Future Excellence also offer exams and assessments?
I don’t see any need to change your course of action. You could join the Pestalozzi Trust, for some support, although she is no longer liable for compulsory schooling.
Please contact us, should you have any specific questions.
Kind regards
Karin
